New Delhi, India (CNN) -- At least five passengers were killed when a train derailed in northern India on Monday, authorities said.

Six cars of the Gorakhdam Express train left the tracks near a rail station in the Sant Kabir Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh state on Monday morning. Authorities suspect a collision with a stationary cargo train caused the derailment, India's North-Eastern railway spokesman Alok Singh told CNN.
Emergency crews tried to to pull passengers out of the wrecked coaches, Singh said. It was not immediately clear how many people were still trapped inside he added.
